A weekend in Nanaimo

March 27 - 30, 2015

Brock and Cydney were visiting family in Nanaimo, so Morgan and I decided to go up there as well.
Cynthia stayed home to manage the kittens and the kitchen remodel. More on that here soon.

We stayed at Paul and Wendy's place, and spent time visiting with them, as well as Brock and Cydney, Grandma Katy, Scott, and the Reshlers.

It was a windy and cool ferry ride across the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Port Angeles to Victoria.

When we arrived, there was lots of family there to greet us. We had a great evening catching up.
Morgan sang us a sleepy version of 'Let it go' from the stairway.

I brought some brews from home.

Wendy had a great idea. Let's go ice-skating! This was the highlight for Morgan.
She fell a lot on the first day, but skated for about an hour and a half without wanting any breaks.
On the second day, she got her hands on a hockey stick and her skating really improved. Hmmm....

She's a natural! I was so proud!

A quick lesson from one of the staff at the ice rink was very helpful.

Morgan was very determined to learn to skate. She took some falls that would have resulted in tears anywhere else.
Instead of crying or quitting, she got back up and kept going, over and over. She really wanted to get this down.

Paul and Wendy.

Day two went really well. Morgan fell much less often, especially after she got her hands on a hockey stick.
She began chasing the puck around. After about 20 minutes she had much more confidence and skill.

Face off!

After ice skating on the first day, we went out to a coffee shop and Morgan got herself a gourmet hot chocolate.
We also visited a Value Village where Cydney bought Morgan a couple of dress-up dresses, and I got a hockey jersey.
This, along with the hockey training, inspired me and Wendy to find a jersey for Morgan as well.

SUGAR!!!

Yes, she got the guitar toy too. I decided against the breastplate...

We also spent an afternoon at Katy's.
Katy generously gave Morgan her choice of two music boxes from her collection.

Katy, my grandmother.

Thanks to everyone for the good times and hospitality, especially to Paul and Wendy!
I intend to return in late August. Next time, we'll bring Cynthia too!
