Spray Park, Mount Rainier

July 18, 2010

Grandpa Lowell has wanted to take us to Spray Park, his favorite place on Mt Rainier, for some time.
I think he first suggested it about a year ago, not long after Morgan was born.
On the Sunday after Morgan's first birthday, the four of us drove up to Mowich Lake for a great family day hike.

The image above links to a map of the Spray Park area.
The map is 8 MB, so right-click and save, or be patient.

We stopped for a photo at a viewpoint over Eagle Cliff, with great views of the volcano.

Below Spray Park, lies magnificent Spray Falls.
The cascade is about 200 feet tall.

The trail from Spray Falls up to Spray Park is pretty steep.
While I was huffing and puffing up the switchbacks, Morgan was enjoying the ride in her baby backpack.

Spray Park is a broad and beautiful sub-alpine meadow, famous for wildflowers.

Morgan and I shared a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Cynthia had to keep a close eye on Morgan while she was exploring.
She really wanted to taste everything. Mmmmm, gravel!

We landed this hike on a day with perfect weather. There were just a few clouds in an otherwise blue sky.
Some clouds started forming around the summit as we were finishing lunch.

Thanks for showing us this little bit of paradise, Lowell.
I hope you keep up your hiking habit. We'd love to come back here with you again.
Someday we'll return Spray Park and Morgan can chase butterflies through this sub-alpine wonderland!
Hope to see you there!
