Goldmyer Hotsprings

Snoqualmie Pass area, on the Cascadian crest!

June 27-30, 2014

Eric and Miriam invited us to come to Goldmyer Hotsprings, a very special place in the National Forest managed by a non-profit.
The hotspring itself comes from the back of a ~40 foot deep cave! You can soak inside the cave, or in one of the two lower pools outside of the cave.

The photo below was taken from inside the cave, looking out.
We didn't take photos (other than the one below) at the hot spring. You'll have to see it for yourself!

Goldmyer Hotspring is about 5 miles up the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River from the parking lot.
There were seven of us all together. We managed the five miles in various ways:

Cynthia rode a bike and pulled Morgan on a tag-along.
I hauled a bicycle trailer full of gear.
Eric and Miriam rode their bikes.
Nels and Victoria hiked it with their heavily-loaded backpacks.

Here's the trailer. As you can see, I also had a loaded rear rack and panniers.
The trailer had two heavy packs in it, plus some additional gear.
The trailer worked out really well. I was able to get to the camp site (and the trailhead on the way out) first, and then return to everyone else to help haul gear.
This wound up being very useful when Eric's bike got a rear flat tire (both ways) and I was able to help haul his gear.
It was hard in the equipment though. By the end of the trip, the trailer was just barely holding together.

This photo was actually taken at the end of the weekend after we returned to the parking lot.

Here are a couple of videos I managed to take on the ride back down.

We got rained on for most of the weekend.
We set up a shelter with a few tarps and kept our spirits up with good company and plenty of soaking in hot water!

Morgan has a birthday coming up real soon.
After weeks of saying that she's 4 3/4, I decided to get a little more precise.
Now, with a little help, she's telling people that she's 4.98!

A huge tree in our campsite had a little door built into it, presumably for the local wee-folk.

Here's Nels on the road to camp, giving an old-growth cedar a little love.

A couple of shots of our rainy camp scene.

Big thanks to Eric and Miriam for organizing this get-away and showing us this special spot in the Cascades.
