Summer Roadtrip: Northern California

June-July 2010

...and a great time was had by all.
Highlights below:
Cynthia and Morgan left for Modoc County, CA on June 17th, about a week ahead of me.
They flew into Reno, NV and got a ride to Eagleville, CA from Rosemary and Wolfgang.

Eagleville is located in Suprise Valley, Modoc County, CA, which is situated between the Warner Range to the west and the Calico Mountains to the east.
Eagleville was HOT! It took a few days for Cynthia and Morgan to get used to temperatures in the upper 90's.

Morgan was introduced to many new creatures while in Modoc.
Goats...

Puppies...

and a horse!

I arrived about a week later, on Saturday, June 26th. I drove Rhonda the Honda, loaded with camping gear, down from Olympia.
We headed up into the South Warner Wilderness right away.

We hiked up to Pine Creek Basin with a couple of friends.
Morgan got her first taste of real river sand.

..and then we all hopped in the car and hit the road.
see ya later Modoc!

Our next stop was Mt Shasta City, back into Cascadia!

We were visiting our friend, Kim, who brought us up to Castle Lake, one of her favorite places in the area.

The manzanitas were in bloom at the cabin we stayed in, which is owned by Kim's friend, Robert.
Thanks guys!

..and then we all hopped in the car and hit the road.
see ya later Shasta!

Our next stop was in Arcata, where we met up with our friends, Blair, Leisyka, and Isaak.
Cynthia and Morgan stayed in Arcata with Leisyka and Isaak for three nights.

...while Blair and I finally made good on all of our talk, and spent some time in the wilderness!

Granite, snow, peaks, and fun but futile fishing...

We all met up a few days later on the North Fork of the Salmon River where we camped out for a couple of nights.

Blair and Leisyka brought us to this semi-secretive beautiful little stretch of river.

The kids played in the water and amongst the boulders.

We had our first family camping experience, which went really well.
It turns out that Morgan can nap just about anywhere and that a tent makes an excellent crib.

..and then we all went downstream, and down the road again.
see ya later Klamath Mountains!

Cydney turned 60 on July 8th, and we were in Sacramento to celebrate the occasion.

Morgan found fun things to do both inside and outside.
She climbed her first staircase all the way to the top (I'm so proud)!
She rode around in her new convertible and played in her pool. Ah, summer!

..and then we all headed for home!
see ya later California!
