Taos, New Mexico

July 2011

The three of us flew down to New Mexico to surprise Cydney on her birthday!

Chloe, Brock, and Cydney were having breakfast on the patio when we arrived.

Chloe and Brock were expecting us (and played no small role in our being there), but our appearance caught Cydney totally by surprise!

Happy Birthday Cydney!

We spent much of the day, and the following day, hanging out together outside.
The weather was generally in the 90s. Ahhh.

Chloe is an incredible chef.
We enjoyed her tasty and plentiful dishes the whole time.
Day 1:
Olive tapenade, pureed beet salad, and mezze.
Followed by a great pasta salad with artichokes, cherry tomatoes, arugula, and avocado.
Topped off with 'Happy-to-You-Cake' (chocolate-hazelnut-raspbery cake with raspberry coulis on top)!
Day 2:
Green Salad and Jamaican black beans with butternut squash over cornbread.
Topped off by bradied peach streusel pie with vanilla soy ice cream!

I should also note that, in addition to some nice champagne, Brock showed up with two six-packs of Stone IPA, one of the world's best brews.

While the adults sat around the table on the patio, Morgan spent a lot of time playing with the nearby door.
The screen door was a particularily fun toy, and it even survived the experience.

The kittens, Yuri and Paschenka, had their own meals.

Cydney accompanied us into town on the afternoon of her birthday.
We hit the kids section of the local bookstore, and then Cydney treated us all to Italian sodas in the Taos Plaza.
Morgan discovered whip-cream. Oh boy.

Morgan had a great time with enormous amounts of blueberries at her disposal.
Her artist Grandmother encouraged her creative side in the studio while Cynthia and I went into town.

The ladies spent a day and a night at the Ten Thousand Waves Spa, where Brock, Morgan, and I picked them up the following day.
We spent a few hours with some awesome Thai food, a southwest monsoon, and each other in downtown Santa Fe.
Then, all of us (except Cydney) departed for the Alberquerque airport.

Bye-bye Grandma! Happy Birthday!
